How we rank and verify
We rank businesses on facts we can check and re-check, not on who pays us. Nobody can buy a listing, a better position or a review on this site.
How we verify facts
- Every fee, rule, schedule and season comes from the official or primary source: town codes, county pages, the National Park Service, NCDOT, North Carolina statutes, or the business's own published information.
- Each page lists its sources and the date we checked them.
- Pages show a "last verified" date. We re-check rules and fees before each season and whenever a source changes.
- If we cannot confirm a fact, we leave it out or tell you to check with the source. We do not guess.
How we score restaurants, activities, shops and services
Each ranked list uses the same 100-point rubric.

The review audit
Star averages can mislead. A busy waterfront restaurant can sit near 2.5 stars on more than a thousand reviews while a small spot sits near 5 stars on a few dozen. Neither number alone tells you much.
So we read recent reviews across the major platforms for every business we rank and record, in our own words, the themes that repeat, how recent they are, and whether the owner responds. We do not copy reviews or store star ratings from other platforms.
Picks before a full ranking
Some pages, such as our wild horse tour comparison, give "which fits" picks based only on published facts while the review audit is in progress. Those pages say so at the top.
Mistakes
If something on this site is wrong or out of date, please tell us. We fix confirmed errors quickly and log every correction.
